Program Information

What is Positive Behavior Support
Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is a research-based intervention model targeted at improving student behavior and student academic achievement.  PBS is currently being used in over 8,000 schools.  The results have been positive, with schools showing a reduction in discipline referrals.  Norcross High School is one of 17 Gwinnett County Schools implementing PBS this year. 

Philosophy
Positive Behavior Support is a process for teaching and recognizing appropriate behavior and providing the supports necessary to sustain that behavior. Positive Behavior Support uses research-based practices and strategies. 

Goal
The goal of Positive Behavior Support is to increase academic performance, increase safety, decrease problem behaviors, and sustain a positive school climate.

Reinforcements
Teachers will receive five Blue Bucks per week. Teachers give the Blue Bucks to students exhibiting positive behavior and adhering to the Matrix.  Students can then redeem their Blue Bucks for a candy bar at any administrator’s office, a chance to leave 1 minute early for lunch, or a weekly drawing from the media center.

Students will also be recognized using the automated calling system and good news postcards. In addition, selected students will be recognized each week for no tardies and perfect attendance with coupons from area businesses.

Teacher incentives will also be incorporated administration will recognize teachers that implement Positive Behavior Support with bottled water and ice cream. In addition, administration will recognize two teachers each month that implement Positive Behavior Support by providing privileged parking.
