II.  Class Guidelines and Rules:

I expect all my students to actively participate in the learning experience!  REMEMBER: it is up to you whether you succeed or not in this class.  Each Senior should strive to be honorable and full of integrity, at all times

A.  Be respectful  and polite at all times to the teacher, fellow students, and other adults.

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” - Ghandi

1.  Defiance, rudeness and disrespect, both towards the teacher and other adults will not be tolerated. Be respectful of fellow students, their personal property, and their ideas.  Remain seated during class and help maintain a quiet, well-ordered environment.  Don’t interrupt the teacher or fellow students, learn to communicate maturely and practice polite behavior.

2.  No food or gum in the classroom at any time!  Capped drinks only.

3.No writing on desks, walls, books or any other school property.

4.Cheating in ANY FORM will result in an automatic zero for an assignment and a parent contact.Copying or paraphrasing material from another source without properly crediting that source is considered plagiarism and will result in a zero on the work, as well as the other consequences listed in the student handbook. Sharing work with another student is also considered cheating and will result in a zero as well.  Moreover, use of Cliffs Notes or similar “study aids” is not allowed unless specifically authorized by the teacher.

5.   Please, no sleeping or profanity in class.

6.  Mobile phones that are visible, heard, used as cameras/calculators/mirrors will be confiscated and turned into the front office according to school policy.

B.  Be a responsible and mature member of this class.  PLEASE

You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” – Lincoln

1. Follow directions and listen carefully to the teacher.

2.  Come to class ON TIME- tardy students without a pass will be marked as such. You are tardy if you are not in the room when the bell has finished ringing.

3.  Bring supplies to class everyday-no exceptions.  You must have your literature in class on the day indicated on your syllabus; otherwise, you must return to your locker and if tardy, get a tardy pass.

4. You are responsible for ANY work on the syllabus. If you are on campus the day an assignment is due, you MUST turn it in; failure to do so will result in a zero. (See back for LA Dept Late Work Policy)

5.Make-Up Work: If absent, it is your responsibility to collect and do the make-up work and turn it in within one week of absence.  There is a “Student Make-Up Work” notebook at the front of the room in which you will find handouts etc from the day you were absent. Check your syllabus for missed assignments. You must bring in your excuse note and turn it in to the attendance office within 2 days of coming back to school in order to get missed work during an absence.  If you are absent for a test, you will take it the first day back to class. Remember, only EXCUSED absences allow you to make up work or tests.

6. By being mature, you choose to do the work assigned without complaining.

7.  “Red Flag Contracts” :  74 % - includes 3 Goals (with action steps) and parent signature

III. .  Consequences

Actions have consequences...first rule of life. And the second rule is this - you are the only one responsible for your own actions.” - Lisle

Verbal warning*, Before-School Detention (s), Silent Lunch, Behavior Essay/Forms, or Referral to Assistant Principal

* Defiance, profanity or fighting will result in an immediate referral to the Assistant Principal and parent contact.

Having the above policies and guidelines in place help make this classroom a place where great things can happen.  These guidelines also allow everyone an opportunity to be involved in the learning process.  Should you ever need any extra help, additional directions, or clarification on an assignment please ask!  This is going to be a wonderful year and I look forward to having you in my class.
