The IB Diploma Programme has been implemented at Norcross High School for over twenty years. It provides Norcross students with the opportunity to participate in the rigorous courses and unique learning experiences provided by the IBO.

 

Students wishing to enter the IB program out of middle school need the following criteria for acceptance into the Pre-IB program at NHS.

-Performance at an 85% average in all subjects

-Reccomendations for honors level courses

-Composite score of 80% or above on last achievement test taken

-Foreign language in 8th grade (helpful, not mandatory)

-Writing sample stating interest in The IB Program

-Letters of reccomendation from core teachers

-Questionaire and application

 

While the principal goal of the IB program is to earn the 4-year diploma, there are three levels of participation in the program offered at NHS.

Full Diploma Participation - Full diploma students engage in all six IB courses all four years. Also, diploma students take the two semester Theory of Knowledge course. the Extended Essay, and the 150 CAS hour requirement (this consists of creativity, action, and service). At the end of the program, students will sit for all exams in the six subjects and will complete internal assessments as well.

Certificate Participation Level I - The Associate program is a school distinction and is not an official IB designation. Associate students will complete four IB level courses (two courses at higher level and two courses at standard level) and will sit for these exams and do the internal assessments. Students are not eligible for the IB diploma.

Certificate Participation Level II - The Certificate Level II program is also a school designation. Students in this program choose to take one or two IB courses and will sit for the exams with a teacher reccomendations for higher level courses.
